Where to eat and drink in October to support breast cancer awareness

A showcase of specials, discounts and sales regarding and supporting breast cancer awareness all around the nation.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when we all come together to support survivors and their families; a time when companies, brands and restaurants come together to donate funds to cancer research.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. helps not only survivors but healthy women detect breast cancer with early detection plans, such as self-exams and clinical exams. Plus, the foundation debunks a few myths about breast cancer, so stay informed!

How restaurants can join and support breast cancer awareness

Restaurants can join in the movement this year by engaging customers with simple ideas such as using pink butcher paper to wrap your sandwiches in, tying a pink ribbon on every to-go order or even hosting an all-pink event where you serve menu items colored pink. (Remember you can color food naturally with fruits such as strawberries and vegetable juice such as beet juice!)

How you can support breast cancer awareness

There are plenty of ways to get involved and raise some money for breast cancer research; whatever you decide to do, just remember that even a simple thing like volunteering at a local hospital’s cancer wing brings joy to everyone around you.

  • Host a ticketed event, such as a concert to benefit the cause and research.
  • Create a fundraising event such as a bake sale if you love baking.
  • Make a donation or gather a group of friends and co-workers and make a group donation.

Events

Chicago

During the month, participating Chicago restaurants will be collecting donations from their patrons in support of the Lynn Sage Foundation’s Chicago’s In Good Taste campaign. All proceeds (100 percent) will go directly to breast cancer research at Northwestern University. Find a full list of participating restaurants on Open Table.

South Florida

If you’re a tea lover, head to Luca Bella, a family-style Italian restaurant that will be serving tea and light appetizers while women learn the Triple Touch breast self-examination technique. Benefiting The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, a breast cancer survivor will also be in attendance to answer any questions.

New York

The Pink Agenda hosts this year’s “Let’s Paint the Town Pink” with fun events during the night such as a live and silent auction, open bar, amazing catered food and more. The evening will also include a special presentation of the Lisa Mae Lee Award to Kara Council.
