Growing up, one of our favorite holiday traditions was leaving cookies for Santa on a brightly colored plate on Christmas Eve. To make Santa even happier (and even fatter), we’ve turned our cookie plate into a pretty cake!
We know Santa’s not going to be the only one who loves this delicious cake! Bring this to your family’s holiday party, work or your kid’s school for a cute and easy Christmas dessert that doubles as decor.
Santa’s cookie plate cake recipe
Serves about 8
Ingredients:
- 1 box butter cake mix
- 1/2 cup water
- 7 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can white frosting
- 1 large sheet of white fondant (we used Wilton)
- Red and green icing gel
- Peppermint candies
- Cookies
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a standard size 8 x 8-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
- Beat the cake mix, water, eggs and butter together in a mixing bowl. Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for about 28-32 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- Place on a wire cooling rack and cool completely before you frost.
- Once cooled, frost the top and sides of the cake. Carefully knead 1/2 of the fondant and roll out the fondant to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cover the frosting with fondant, being sure to cover the top and all sides of the cake.
- Using a small plate, trace the top of the cake to make an indent. Using colored icing gel, outline the traced part of the plate. Using the red and green icing gel, write out santa’s cookies. Add some peppermint candies around the edges to make it look more like a plate.
- Add some cookies to the top of the plate underneath the text.
