Were you naughty or nice this year? One bite of these Christmas stocking cakes will tell you. Surprise your friends and family this holiday season by serving little cakes with naughty or nice treats hidden inside — mini M&M’s if you’ve been nice, black licorice “coal” if you’ve been naughty.
Naughty or nice stocking cakes recipe
Yields 10-12 cakes
Ingredients and supplies:
- 1 box Duncan Hines red velvet cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- Stocking-shaped cookie cutter
- Mini M&M’s (holiday colors)
- Black licorice, chopped
- White frosting
Directions:
Make red velvet cake
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9 x 13-inch pan with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix together cake mix, eggs, oil and water. Pour into lined pan. Tap pan on the counter to remove air bubbles. Bake for 35-38 minutes. Allow cake to cool.
Remove cake from pan and trim
Remove the cake from the pan. Trim the top flat and flip the cake over to the parchment paper side. Remove parchment paper.
Cut out stocking shapes and hollow out center
Using a stocking-shaped cookie cutter, cut shapes from the cake. (You should get 10-12 cakes.)
Hollow the centers of each stocking cake with a fruit corer or knife.
Fill stockings and frost tops
Fill the stockings with either mini M&M’s or black licorice. (You could also use other “naughty” and “nice” foods, as desired. Maybe whipped cream and sour cream? Get creative!)
Pipe white frosting around the tops of the stocking cakes to hide the treats inside. Keep covered in an airtight container until ready to serve.
Were you naughty or nice?
Arrange the stockings on a plate and serve them to your holiday guests asking, “Were you naughty or nice this year?” They’ll find out when they break them open!
