This might not be a traditional Philadelphia meal, but we took all that cheesesteak deliciousness and threw it on a pizza.
Cheesesteak doesn’t just have to piled high on a sandwich roll. I’m a huge fan of this pizza because it gives you all the cheesesteak flavor but in an easier-to-eat form. The addition of Velveeta is a nod to the classic Philly cheesesteak which is often sold with a drizzle of Cheez Whiz. Trust me, if you’re looking for something new this is the pizza for you.
Philly cheesesteak pizza recipe
Yields 1 (12 inch) pizza
Ingredients:
- 1 pound pizza dough, store-bought
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup sliced bell peppers, any color
- 1/2 cup sliced yellow onion
- 1/3 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 ounces thinly sliced Velveeta cheese
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced steak, raw
Directions:
- Let the pizza dough sit until room temperature. This helps so the dough will stretch without shrinking back up.
- In a large skillet set over medium heat, add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add in bell peppers and onion. Sauté until soft.
- Prepare a baking sheet with a Silpat liner. Stretch out the dough to create a 12-inch circle, or, if it’s easier, you can shape it into a rectangle.
- Spread the sauce onto the dough, leaving a 1-inch crust around the edge. Sprinkle on the shredded cheese, add sautéed peppers and onions and top with Velveeta slices.
- Lay out thin slices of steak to the top of the pizza. They will fully cook in the oven.
- Bake for about 18 minutes until the steak is fully cooked, the cheese is lightly browned and the dough is cooked.
- Let rest for 3 minutes and slice.
