Touchdown turkey sausage taters

As a wife and a working mom, I look for recipes that are quick and easy, and I often talk about loving a new recipe because it is both of those things. Recently, I found a new ingredient that definitely makes my life easier: Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage Crumbles.

t

t My husband is a huge football fan. Specifically, he’s a huge New England Patriots football fan. Thankfully for him, the Patriots have done quite well in recent years, landing themselves in the Super Bowl several times.

t For me, Super Bowl Sunday is less about the football and much more about all the fun game time foods. No matter what, when football is on, there’s always good food to eat — and when the Super Bowl is on, then it’s really time to step it up a notch! This year, I decided to try something new, just in time for Super Bowl Sunday. I wanted a cross between a loaded baked potato and a potato-skin appetizer.

t As a wife and a working mom, I’m most often looking for recipes that are quick and easy, and I often talk about loving a new recipe because it is both of those things. I especially love it when there’s a shortcut or an ingredient that makes my life easier, and recently, I found a new ingredient that does just that.

t Enter Jimmy Dean.

t They have a great new product that I decided to try for my new recipe: Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage Crumbles. You can find them in the refrigerated meat section at the grocery store, and you can add them to many of your recipes. There are actually several varieties to choose from (not just turkey), but I went with the turkey sausage variety for my family. As I was prepping my Touchdown Turkey Sausage Taters, I loved the fact that I could easily open the pouch of turkey sausage and pour the already-cooked, already-crumbled sausage into a bowl. I definitely scored points for saving time!

t Of course, when I cook and bake, I’m totally a taster. I taste all the things you shouldn’t taste and all the things I tell my kids they can’t taste — like cake and cookie batters. But I didn’t hesitate to taste this sausage because I knew it was already cooked and therefore safe to taste. I had no taster’s guilt at all! The sausage was delicious, and I knew for sure that it’d give me extra points in the flavor category when my family tasted this dish.

t I was right — they loved my Touchdown Turkey Sausage Taters! One of my daughters said she could’ve eaten just them for her dinner, even though we served them with chicken and broccoli. And I think my youngest daughter actually did eat just them for dinner, as I don’t think I saw her eat a whole lot of broccoli or chicken!

t Since my new recipe was such a hit with my family, I thought I’d share it with you as well so that you, too, can make my Touchdown Turkey Sausage Taters for your Super Bowl Sunday spread. You don’t need a ton of ingredients, and using the Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage Crumbles will make life that much easier for you.

t Below is the recipe as we made it for a family of five. Increase recipe portions for larger groups.

t Enjoy your Super Bowl and enjoy my Touchdown Turkey Sausage Taters!
