Sassy and sexy whiskey cocktails

We are here to be your whiskey fairy godmother, so to speak. So grab your designated driver and let’s do this thing.

t

t Whiskey is often thought of as a “man’s” drink. Only they can handle its toughness, its potency. Well, let’s be honest. That thought process is more outdated than bell bottoms and tie-dyed T-shirts. Whiskey isn’t just for men. Women these days are ambling their way up to the bar and ordering whiskey with confidence. There are certainly those brave enough to drink it on the rocks. But for those who maybe need a little something to cut through the whiskey, there are dozens of delicious cocktails on the market. We are here to be your whiskey fairy godmother, so to speak. So grab your designated driver and let’s do this thing.

t

Blood orange whiskey sour

t Whiskey sours are classic in terms of cocktails. Something you may see Don Draper or Roger Sterling sipping. And that simply won’t do. This cocktail needed a modern, feminine edge. That is where blood orange juice comes into play. Blood oranges are seasonal citrus fruits that have a tart orange bite with a hint of raspberry-like sweetness. In this cocktail, they add a great element of modernity while still keeping the cocktail classic.

t Serves 2

Ingredients:

    t
  • 2 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • t

  • 2 ounces fresh blood orange juice
  • t

  • 2 ounces simple syrup
  • t

  • 2 ounces Irish whiskey

Directions:

t Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake until chilled then strain into two glasses filled with ice. Garnish with blood orange slices.

t

The Irish sprite

t Grenadine is a much-used cocktail mixer for a reason. It has a sweetness that cuts through the bitter taste and bite of many liquors. Here, it is combined with grapefruit soda, a great citrus flavor, and Jameson Irish whiskey. The whiskey has kick to it, for sure. Grenadine complements it without being overpowered by it.

t Serves 2

Ingredients:

    t
  • 3 ounces Jameson whiskey
  • t

  • 2 ounces Grenadine
  • t

  • 4 ounces Grapefruit soda

Directions:

t Divide Jameson and Grenadine into two glasses filled with ice. Pour grapefruit soda on top to fill.

t

Raspberry whiskey jammer

t Adding jam to cocktails is definitely a new trend that we love. Jam gives a little bit of heft to a cocktail. They also give you the opportunity to really play around and have fun. Try adding any number of jams, from blueberry champagne to lingonberry. Here, we’ve used raspberry to give our cocktail an extra layer of flavor.

t Serves 2

Ingredients:

    t
  • 2 heaping tablespoons four berry jam
  • t

  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • t

  • 4-1/2 ounces rye whiskey
  • t

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

Directions:

t Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into two martini glasses.

t

Cherry whiskey limeade

t Cherry limeade is basically the summer drink. It must be the combination of sweet cherry with tart lime. But we’ve added an extra fun element of flavor by tossing a little whiskey into the mix. It gives a great flavor, and a buzz that makes it a really great spring or summer cocktail.

t Serves 2

Ingredients:

    t
  • 2 heaping tablespoons cherry preserves
  • t

  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar
  • t

  • Juice of 1 lime
  • t

  • 3 ounces whiskey
  • t

  • 2 ounces sparkling water

Directions:

t Combine preserves, sugar and lime juice in a dish until well mixed. Add in whiskey and stir well. Pour through a fine mesh strainer, using the back of a spoon to push the mixture through, eliminating the fruit chunks. Divide the mixture into two glasses and top with sparkling water.
