Ice pops are the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. They are very simple to make, but if you don’t have an ice pop mold, then you might think you can’t make your own. No mold? No problem.
My little baby turns 1 in just a month. It’s crazy how quickly he’s grown up and how independent he is getting. A few weeks ago, I made some ice pops and decided to share one with him. He was confused at first but completely loved the flavor and the experience.
Ever since then, I’ve been creating all kinds of different ice pops for him to try, using mostly fruity baby food. I do have an ice pop mold, but before I had one, I learned how to make them without a mold. These are simple to make and don’t take long at all.
Start off by filling up your blender with frozen raspberries and 1/2 a 1-liter bottle of sparkling orange water. Blend the 2 together until smooth. Then add in the rest of the sparkling orange water and 1 can of completely thawed orange juice concentrate.
Taste the mixture, and if it is too tart or not sweet enough, then add in up to 1/4 cup of superfine sugar. It is important to use superfine sugar so it will mix in completely with the mixture and not just float to the bottom of the ice pops.
Once everything is blended and taste tested to your preference, pour the mixture into small foam cups. You don’t want to fill the cups all the way up, since the mixture will rise a little bit as it freezes.
Freeze the mixture for about 2 hours before inserting an ice pop stick into each cup.
The ice pop sticks will then stand in the partially frozen ice pops. Return the ice pops to the freezer to chill until completely hardened and set. It takes at least 10 hours for the mixture to completely freeze into ice pops.
Once the ice pops are frozen, remove them from the freezer, and peel off the cups. It should be easy to slowly remove the cups. Discard the cups, and enjoy the ice pops.
