For this year’s big-game party, nothing is more important than a great appetizer. We combined Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles with sharp cheddar cheese and Granny Smith apples roasted in brown sugar, and then we tucked them all into a light puff pastry.

Game-day sausage puffs

Ingredients:

- 1 package Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles
- 1 medium Granny Smith apple, cored and diced into 1/2-inch pieces (skin on)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 3 ounces sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 package puff pastry (refrigerated)

Directions:

- Place the oven rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Lay out an ungreased 12-hole minimuffin pan.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, saute the apples in the butter for 1 minute. Add the brown sugar to the apples and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the apples are cooked through. Then remove them from the heat.
- Lay the puff pastry flat on a cutting board or pastry mat. Cut it into 12 even squares. Gently place each pastry square into the holes of the minimuffin pan.
- Place a pinch of the cheese in the bottom of the puff pastry, followed by 1 tablespoon of sausage, 1 teaspoon of apples and a generous pinch of cheese. Repeat with the other 11 puff pastries.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately.
