Vodka-infused Kool-Aid makes for a perfect ice cube cocktail

Because Kool-Aid isn’t just for the kids… These flavored ice cubes team up with vodka and lemon-lime soda to create an adults-only drink that takes you back to the carefree days of childhood.

Remember when you were little and used to drink Kool-Aid? I used to love the stuff but haven’t made it in years. But then I got the idea to make a few batches and turn it into ice cubes. My mom used to make ice pops out of frozen Kool-Aid, but I decided to give it an over-21 spin: cocktails. Don’t worry, I give an optional recipe for the under-21 crowd too.

1. Kool-Aid ice cube cocktail recipe

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 Kool-Aid ice cubes
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • Lemon-lime soda

Directions:

  1. To a short cocktail glass, add Kool-Aid cubes and vodka, and top with lemon-lime soda.
  2. To keep the cocktail virgin, simply omit the vodka.

2. Kool-Aid ice cubes recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 Kool-Aid packets (any flavor, but use a variety of colors)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 16 cups water
  • 2 ice cube trays

Directions:

  1. Open all the Kool-Aid packets, and set them aside.
  2. To a large measuring cup (I used an 8-cup), add 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 a Kool-Aid packet and 4 cups of water. Stir to combine.
  3. Pour the mixture into half of the spaces in the ice cube tray. Pour any leftover Kool-Aid into a glass.
  4. Rinse out the measuring cup, and repeat the steps until all 4 Kool-Aid flavors have been made and poured into the ice cube trays.
  5. Place the ice cube trays into the freezer, and freeze them overnight until hard.
