Turn it up a notch with these three homemade fries recipes, which include Mexican, Italian and Indian flavors.
I love fries, and I’m always trying to create new spice mixes for the topping. These three spice mixes will help you get started with your own spicy fry mix at home.
1. Indian-spiced fries recipe
Indian flavors have been a huge trend for the year 2014. The combination of turmeric and cumin really makes these fries stand out. In fact, they were my favorite out of the trio set. As you will notice, these fries came out much more yellow than the other batches, and that is because of the turmeric.
Serves 3-4
Ingredients:
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3 large russet potatoes
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a small bowl, combine the turmeric, cumin, coriander, paprika and salt.
- Cut the potatoes into shoestring slices. Coat with olive oil, and then sprinkle the fries with the spice mix.
- Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.
2. Italian-spiced fries recipe
These fries are always made in my home. Most people already have the spices in their pantry and can whip up a batch in a matter of minutes. If you really want to make them stand out, then top them with a little bit of shredded Parmesan cheese while baking.
Serves 3-4
Ingredients:
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 large russet potatoes
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a small bowl, combine the basil, coriander, garlic salt, paprika, oregano, sage, parsley and black pepper.
- Cut the potatoes into shoestring slices. Coat with olive oil, and then sprinkle the fries with the spice mix.
- Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.
3. Mexican-spiced fries recipe
It’s no lie that I love anything with Mexican flavors. These fries have me craving Mexican food all over again. The spices create a little touch of heat, but add them to queso or guacamole, and you are in french fry heaven.

- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika

- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Directions:

- In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, garlic powder, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper.
- Cut the potatoes into shoestring slices. Coat with olive oil, and then sprinkle the fries with the spice mix.
