Go ahead: Drink and be merry this holiday season. Just don’t overdo it! Keep yourself in check and drink in moderation.
Eat plenty of food
Take advantage of those hors d’oeuvres trays floating around. Eat a full meal before you head out and snack throughout the evening. Keeping your belly full of food will slow down the absorption of any alcohol you consume. Avoid salty, sweet and greasy foods; they will make you thirsty. Instead, go for foods high in protein and starch, such as meats, veggies, cheeses, dips and breads.

Alcohol-free drinks
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a drink or two, but there’s no reason every drink you have should be alcoholic. Opt for a tasty, alcohol-free mocktail as a refreshing alternative.
Limit your alcohol >>
Sip your drink
Don’t throw back that delicious drink; make it last! Sip and savour your drink. You’ll enjoy it more.
Have a drinking buddy
It’s one thing to head out to a party with a plan to stay sober, but quite another feat to stick with that plan. Go with a friend and make a deal to look out for each other. If you show signs of being tipsy or are drinking more than you should, your friend can help you stay in check, and you can do the same for her — so you both get home safely.
Alcohol-free alternatives to try
The alcohol doesn’t always make the drink. Try this delicious holiday drink recipe for a beverage that will get the party started without leaving you lightheaded.
Sassy Sangria

SheKnows Tip
It’s hard to turn down drinks without sounding rude. Keep a little in your glass. Your host will be less likely to offer more if you still have a drink in your hand.
