St. Patrick’s Day cocktails

To enjoy a bit of Irish whisky on St. Paddy’s Day, imbibe the spirit in one of these inspired cocktails.

Irish coffee

Serves one

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup freshly brewed coffee
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 ounces Irish whisky
  • Slightly whipped heavy cream

Directions:

  1. Pour coffee into a cup or mug.
  2. Add sugar and stir until it’s dissolved.
  3. Mix in the Irish whisky.
  4. Gently pour the slightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon to top off the beverage.

The Emerald

Serves one

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Irish whisky
  • 1 ounce vermouth
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Place all the liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake gently, then strain into a cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

The Tipperary

Serves one

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Irish whisky
  • 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce green Chartreuse
  • Twist of lemon

Directions:

  1. Place all liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake gently, then strain into a cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

The Angry Irishman

Serves one

Ingredients:

  • 1 part Irish cream liqueur, such as Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 1 part Irish whisky
  • 3 ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Pour the Irish cream and whisky over the ice cubes and stir.

Celtic Mix cocktail

Serves one

Ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 ounces scotch
  • 1 ounce Irish whisky
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 dash bitters

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake, then strain into a martini glass.
