You know how sometimes you’re all alone in the kitchen, and your mind digs a trench of imagination to escape the inevitable dullness of consumerist routine by projecting fantasies of friendly celebrity chef cook-offs in a familiar environment? No? Just us?
So be it, then! Here is our little refuge from the daily repeatables: Canuck celebrity chefs we’d get cuisinified with in the kitchen.
Michael Smith
OK, so technically Smith is from New York City, but he’s established himself in the Maritimes, so we’re sticking to our guns. If you haven’t seen Food Network’s Chef at Home, you’re a disappointment to humanity. Smith’s gravitation from being a top-notch professional chef to a home cook makes us quiver with cuisinical envy. Yes, you are welcome in our kitchen, Michael. Can we call you Mike? Have you been working out? But we digress… With those brooding eyes, that curly mane and that casual cooking demeanour, Michael Smith is our dream kitchen-buddy.
Lynn Crawford
This Toronto-native needs to scurry over to our casa at the earliest convenience, yes? She’s so awesome and bad-butt (for lack of a non-swear word). Of course, we’d feel incredibly incompetent in her presence, like a young Padawan and the Jedi master. Crawford has a refined taste for the simple, which is always welcome in our humble kitchen. The answer is yes! Yes, we would love to cook with you, Lynn!
Ricardo Larrivée
With a killer white smile and the physical attributes of a cliché Miami pool boy, why wouldn’t you want to cook with Ricardo? The chef is incredibly popular and much loved in Quebec, and with his accessible and easy-to-make recipes, we can see why. Plus, Ricardo’s French accent is adorable and makes you want to force him to read a microwave manual or something. We’d enjoy having some good old-fashioned rosemary-tossing fights and poutine-eating contests with Ricardo. Come on over!
Anna Olson
Oh, Anna! She is like a holy manifestation of pastry-making goodness. Though born in Georgia, Olson was raised in Toronto and is pure magic: fact. Her Food Network show, Bake with Anna Olson, makes us want to rip out our entire kitchen just to install drawers full of flour. Olson can bake anything and everything. She should just become a resident chef at our house — for free! We would definitely share a kitchen with this gal any day — just as long as we buy elastic waist pants beforehand (pastry, after all).
