3 Easy and delicious anti-aging smoothies

We all want to age gracefully, and with so many delicious and nutritious fruit and vegetable combinations, this desire can become a reality.

Even if you’re not a fan of vegetables or fruits, here are three delicious smoothie recipes to help you on your way to a more glowing complexion and get you feeling better on the inside too.

Very easy berry power smoothie

Whether you love all berries or just strawberries (like me), you know what powerful fruits berries can be, especially when it comes to their anti-aging properties. This recipe focuses on combining blueberries and strawberries, both of which contain good amounts of antioxidants, a key to giving you that glowing skin you’ve always wanted. In addition, the sesame seeds are ideal for building bone density, which is great if you are or want to become more active.

Serving size 1

Ingredients:

*Ingredient side note: If you don’t have access to organic fruits, no problem. Use whatever you have on hand, but make sure the produce is fresh when you purchase it. Honey is optional for those who want the drink to be sweeter to the taste.
  • 1/2 cup frozen organic strawberries*
  • 1/2 cup frozen organic blueberries or mixed berries*
  • 1 handful of sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon organic honey*
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened or freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Directions:

Put all the ingredients in a blending device, and blend until desired consistency. Do not blend too much, or you might oxidize the drink and lose necessary nutrients.

Green Monster with a tart twist

Angela Liddon of Oh She Glows inspired this surprisingly good revamped Green Monster recipe. The recipe, which you can find here, has all the elements of the classic Green Monster — kale, almond milk and a banana, among other ingredients. Kale is great because it lowers cholesterol and has been said to prevent against ovarian cancer. It also has a huge amount of vitamin K, a key component in easing inflammation. For this version, apple was added for its tart and sweet taste as well as its fibre benefits and ability to regulate blood sugar. As the old saying goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” and keeps your heart feeling young.

Serving size 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 to 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or skim milk (based on preference)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 handful of kale
  • 1 (organic) apple
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Couple of ice cubes

Directions:

Put all the ingredients in a blending device, and blend. If milk makes the smoothie too rich for your liking, just add a little cold water to balance out the consistency and texture.

Tropical delight smoothies

Since spring is here, what better way to get into the spirit than with a tasty smoothie that combines the best tropical fruits to make you feel like you’re relaxing at a Caribbean destination! This recipe uses both pineapple and mango, two fruits that not only taste great but provide such vitamins and nutrients as vitamin C, omega-3 and beta carotene, all of which contribute to a more graceful aging process for our eyes, hair and skin. And don’t worry about the kale; you’ll barely taste it with all these sweet fruits!

Serving size 2

Ingredients:

  • Half a pineapple
  • 2 small- to medium-sized mangoes
  • 2 kiwis
  • 1 handful of sesame or flaxseeds
  • 1 cup unsweetened orange juice or freshly squeezed orange juice or 1-1/2 cups water
  • 2–3 ice cubes

Directions:

Put all the ingredients in a blending device, and blend. To make it more slushy, add more ice. For hosting purposes, add a little umbrella to the glass, and serve.
