3 Easter candy-bacon hacks for the perfect salty-sweet bite

by

It’s about time bacon got in on the Easter game, don’t you think? Oscar Mayer thought so, and I personally think they’re geniuses for it. Bacon-filled chocolate bunnies, bacon nests to hold your chocolate eggs and, last but not least, bacon Easter grass to put into your baskets.

Imagine an Easter basket filled with bacon grass and bacon-filled chocolate bunnies. You just won Easter. Now let’s get started on some sweet and salty treats.

If the Easter Bunny left me these bacon-filled chocolate bunnies, he would officially be more awesome than Santa. I mean, these hollow candies are just begging to be stuffed with something, and the only logical choice is bacon. Well done, Oscar Mayer.

All you need to do is cut the bottom of a hollow chocolate bunny…

Stuff it full of bacon…

And seal it back up. Nobody would ever guess they’re about to bite into the best Easter candy surprise ever.

Bacon-filled chocolate bunny

Fill a hollow chocolate bunny with crisp bacon for a salty-sweet Easter treat.

Ingredients and supplies:

  • 1 hollow chocolate bunny
  • 2 strips Oscar Mayer bacon
  • Frying pan
  • Paper towels
  • Sharp knife

Directions:

  1. Fry the bacon in a skillet until desired crispness. Pat dry with paper towels, and set aside.
  2. Remove and discard the wrapper on the hollow chocolate bunny.
  3. Heat the knife by running the blade under very hot water over a sink, then dry the knife completely.
  4. Using the dry, warm knife, gently cut the bottom off the bunny. Set the bottom piece aside.
  5. Insert bacon slices into the hollow bunny, breaking the bacon into smaller pieces as needed to completely fill the hollow cavity.
  6. To reseal the bunny, heat the knife once more by running the blade under very hot water over a sink. Dry the knife completely.
  7. Replace the bottom piece onto the bunny.
  8. Slowly run the flat side of the knife back and forth over the seam, melting the chocolate and resealing the bottom.
  9. Enjoy the bacon-y surprise with friends and family.
Can you imagine anything cozier for your eggs than a bacon nest? Not only are these perfect for chocolate eggs, but there’s no reason you couldn’t serve your breakfast in these too. Bacon nests all around.

The best part is, they’re made in the microwave with supplies you already have in your kitchen.

Bacon nests

These quick and easy nests are the perfect spot to place chocolate eggs, Easter candy or hard-boiled eggs.

Ingredients and supplies:

  • 3 strips Oscar Mayer bacon
  • Hard-boiled egg, chocolate or candy of your choice
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Kitchen shears
  • Paper towels

Directions:

  1. Using the kitchen shears, cut each bacon strip lengthwise into 3 long, skinny strips.
  2. Line the microwave-safe bowl with paper towels.
  3. Place the bacon strips in the bowl to form a loose nest, making sure to build up the sides of the nest with bacon strips.
  4. Wad up a paper towel, and place it in the center of the nest, then tuck 1 more paper towel into the bowl.
  5. Microwave at full power for 4 to 5 minutes or until the nest reaches desired crispness. Let cool in the microwave for 5 minutes.
  6. Remove the paper towels, blot the bacon nest to dry it, and serve with your favorite Easter candy or hard-boiled egg in the center.
Admit it… you hate that fake green Easter grass that somehow ends up in all the nooks and crannies of the house, only to be found months later. I guarantee that will not be a problem with bacon Easter grass. This might even get gobbled up before the candy is.

This savory Easter grass is as easy to make as cutting your bacon into thinner strips and frying as usual. Instant salty treat.
