Mouthwatering Asian-style pork ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender

Treat yourself and your family to some Asian home-cooked, fall-off-the-fork pork ribs with fried rice for dinner tonight.

When I think of pork ribs, the only thing I can think of is having them so tender that they fall off my fork. I never say no to pork ribs, especially when they are so tasty and delicious. They usually are because of the long and slow cooking in the oven. With the slow cooking, the spice rub and sauce get absorbed by the meat slowly. The result is always a winner, whatever flavor it is.

With the ribs, I am sharing a recipe for a pepper and pea fried rice dish. If you are ready, then we should start, because this meal takes almost 3-1/2 hours to prepare. It’s worth it, though, for a rewarding and delicious dinner.

Oven-baked orange-soy pork ribs recipe

Pork ribs are most delicious when they are cooked for a long time and absorb all the flavors of the sauce, but the best part is when they fall off the bones. Here is a simple but long (baking) recipe I matched with mixed roasted pepper and pea rice.

Serves 2

Prep time: 10 minutes | Bake time: 3 hours 15 minutes | Total time: 3 hours 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds pork ribs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 large garlic clove, grated or minced
  • 1-1/4 teaspoons ginger, grated or minced
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • Fresh parsley, roughly chopped (optional)

Directions:

  1. Heat the oven to 300 degrees F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper, and then rub the mixture onto the ribs. Next, rub the garlic and 1 teaspoon of ginger onto both sides.
  3. Wrap the ribs in aluminum foil, or place them into a baking pan, and cover with an aluminum foil.
  4. Bake for 2 hours.
  5. While baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, water and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of ginger. Let simmer until the sauce thickens slightly, about 25 minutes.
  6. Remove the ribs from the oven, and brush them with the orange-soy sauce. Cover the ribs again, and bake for another hour.
  7. Raise the temperature to 400 degrees F.
  8. Remove the ribs, and brush them again abundantly with the sauce, but leave some for the rice. When the oven has reached 400 degrees F, uncover the ribs, and bake for another 15 minutes.
  9. Before serving, garnish with parsley, if using.
  10. Serve with the rice (recipe below).
