5 Tasty summertime snacks your kids will love

In our house, we love milk! Today I’m sharing five fun and kid-friendly milk inspired snacks. There is a little something for everyone! The recipes are easy, the snacks are filling, and most importantly, they’re fun to make! For each of these recipes I used DairyPure® Milk because it is a simple and easy choice. Plus it is the only milk brand backed by an exclusive 5-Point Purity Promise.

First up is an old-fashioned strawberry milkshake, a summer staple but a favorite in our house all year round.

Old-fashioned strawberry milkshake

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup DairyPure Milk
  • 3 scoops strawberry ice cream
  • 1 cup of strawberries (frozen or fresh with stems removed)

Directions:

  1. Using a blender, combine the milk, strawberries and ice cream until creamy.
  2. Serve cold in a tall glass with a straw or a spoon!

Next is a super simple milk-lovers recipe. Do you remember eating bananas in milk as a kid? It’s an awesome and easy afternoon snack idea!

Cinnamon sugar bananas in milk

Ingredients:

  • DairyPure Milk
  • 2 bananas
  • Cinnamon sugar blend

Directions:

  1. Pour a small bowl of milk.
  2. Slice up 2 bananas and gently place them over the milk.
  3. Sprinkle on some cinnamon sugar and watch it melt into the milk over the bananas.
  4. Enjoy with a spoon!

The following kid-friendly snack idea is for anybody who has ever had a pineapple whip from the Happiest Place on Earth. They are legendary! My kids love them so much that I decided to turn the mixture into ice pops so that they would last longer. To see where I got the reusable ice pop pouches, click here.

Pineapple whip ice pops

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup DairyPure Milk
  • 1 cup of frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 2 tablespoons of agave nectar

Directions:

  1. In a blender, combine the milk, pineapple, ice and agave nectar. Don’t have agave nectar? Try some sugar instead.
  2. Once the mixture is smooth, blend it on high for about a minute until it becomes creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk.
  3. Using a funnel, pour the pineapple whip into the ice pop pouches.
  4. Freeze until solid and enjoy!

Do you love pudding as much as we do? I remember my mom making it from scratch when I was a kid. I’d wait by the refrigerator until it was perfect and ready to eat. This handmade vanilla pudding recipe is classic!

Handmade vanilla pudding

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups DairyPure Milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt and milk in a saucepan. Slowly bring the milk to a boil stirring it constantly. Once the milk has started to boil, let it boil for 1 minute while stirring.
  2. Quickly whisk in the egg yolk and continue to whisk until it reaches a boil again.
  3. Finally, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla and butter. Pour the vanilla pudding mixture into cups, bowls, glasses or whatever you prefer!
  4. Cover and refrigerate for 45 minutes to an hour or until the pudding is creamy. Sprinkles optional.

Next up is a recipe for Homemade yogurt with granola. Did you know that it’s actually pretty easy to make your own yogurt?

Homemade yogurt with granola

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups DairyPure Milk
  • 1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt from the store

Directions:

  1. Start by sterilizing some jars and lids in boiling water. In large pot, heat the milk to 180 degrees F or until small bubbles start to form (stirring occasionally to prevent burning).
  2. Remove from heat and let the milk return to room temperature. Then, mix in the 1 cup of yogurt from the store.
  3. Once combined, pour the mixture into jars with lids (like the one pictured). Place all of your jars in a pot filled with room temperature water and let them sit for a few hours. It’s best if this room temperature bath covers at least 1/2 of the jars but not all the way up to the lid.
  4. After a few hours, place the jars in the refrigerator and once they are completely refrigerated, they’re ready to eat! You’ve got yogurt for days! Add granola or whatever ingredients you and your kids love.
