McDonald’s ‘secret menu’ may really exist, manager tells Reddit

There’s something about ordering off a “secret menu” that makes you feel special (even if thousands of other people are in on the secret). Everyone knows you can order your In-N-Out burger “animal-style” (extra sauce), yet it’s somehow super satisfying to actually obtain this fast-food anomaly.

Some secret menus are very public — In-N-Out even has its Not-So-Secret Menu posted on its website now — but other fast-food chains are less forthcoming with their off-the-menu items. Until now, we haven’t had confirmation of a McDonald’s secret menu, but a recent Reddit AMA changed all that. Your dreams of a McDonald’s secret menu just came true.

A person identifying himself or herself as a manager from a U.K. McDonald’s, going by the name of “orchidhibiscus,” recently went on the site to answer all your burning questions about the iconic fast-food restaurant. The one that everyone’s buzzing about? His confirmation of the ability to make “grill orders” (aka, the famed secret menu).

When asked to confirm the existence of the secret menu, the manager wrote, “You can order from the ‘Secret Menu’. Just like with any of our sandwiches, you can add, remove or change ingredients by special request. These are called ‘grill orders’ (i.e. Big Mac no pickle). The items on the ‘secret menu’ weren’t invented by anyone officially at McDonald’s, it’s just a random persons [sic] guide to burgers you could potentially ‘hack’ at McDonald’s.

“Order one and the workers might not know it by name (i.e. Land, Air and Sea burger or the McGangBang) but if you explain what it is, and are willing to pay for all the ingredients, it’s just another ‘grill order’ that we can make up.”

For those of us new to these menu items, #HackTheMenu fills us in. A Land, Sea and Air Burger is exactly what you think it would be: a Big Mac, a Filet-O-Fish and a McChicken all mashed into one huge sandwich. The unfortunately named McGangBang is a McChicken stuffed into a McDouble.

A McDonald’s spokesperson speaking to Mashable seemed to confirm what the manager stated, albeit while staying slightly vague, saying, “We do not have a secret menu at McDonald’s U.K. That’s because we love the food that we serve in our restaurants and we don’t want to keep it a secret from our customers. Any requests for extra items or changes to our products are considered at the restaurant manager’s discretion and any additional items may be charged for.” A McDonald’s rep told us, “There is no official secret menu. Our customers are very clever with customizing their own orders, which is what you may have seen.”

Call it what you want… secret menu, grill order, whatever. Either way, we’ll be asking for a Land, Sea and Air Burger next time we stop into a Mickey D’s.
