Slowly but surely, it seems that all of our favorite flavors are popping up in alcoholic beverages. We’ve got ciders that taste like apple, pear and pumpkin. We’ve got stouts laced with coffee, chocolate and hazelnut. And now craft brewers have set their sights on root beer.
Hard root beer is proving itself to be this summer’s latest adult beverage trend, reports Bloomberg. And why not? Root beer is delicious, so boozy root beer must be even better. Not Your Father’s Root Beer, from Small Town Brewery just outside Chicago, is the brew garnering the most buzz. It’s earned the stunning user rating of 94 out of 100 points on Beer Advocate.

According to the brewery’s tasting notes, Not Your Father’s Root Beer delivers a “silky, smooth and satisfying finish” that “appeals to craft beer aficionados as well as those who don’t typically drink beer but crave something unique.” It’s an “ale with a hint of spice” and has a “bold, sweet, smooth and spicy” flavor profile. It’s a root beer boasting a 5.9 percent ABV (alcohol by volume): more than a session ale or your typical beer, but less than a glass of wine.
Small Town’s huge and sudden popularity means you may have a little trouble getting your hands on the coveted bottle — although we snagged some for a taste test and tried it in-house at SheKnows Food.
