At SheKnows Food, we spend a lot of time reading about — you guessed it — food (and drinks too!). And we’ve come across some stories that are too good to not share. Here are the food items from the week that you don’t want to miss.
1. Can you handle the truth about marinades?
Grill masters, you’re not going to like this. All this time you’ve been lovingly soaking your meat in that salty-sweet-acidic combination you’ve been perfecting for years — hoping to infuse each bite with more flavor than your taste buds can handle. There’s bad news. Marinades might not do all that much good after all. It doesn’t make your meat more tender, and it’s not going to absorb as much flavor as you think. Something to consider before you plop your next $25 steak into an overly complicated marinade. Instead, go simple with salt and pepper — you can’t go wrong there. — Los Angeles Times

2. I scream, you scream, all the food bloggers scream about ice cream
Curious what your favorite food bloggers have to say about ice cream? Yahoo Food got the scoop (get it?) on all things ice cream — from favorite flavors to where they stand in the cup vs. cone debate to current trends (hint: it’s booze) to their best homemade recipes. With summer waning, it should be your mission to cram as much ice cream into your life as possible. — Yahoo
3. Foodies definitely have opinions
This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone but foodies can be very opinionated. Whether it’s the proper way to sear a steak or the best mac and cheese recipe, emotions can run high. But when you’re on the outside looking in, it can be quite entertaining. Take these five topics that got food Redditors all worked up, for example. From debating the merits of a deep-dish pizza to discussing the doneness of a rack of lamb, there’s never a dull moment. — Eater

4. Wait for it…
There’s a new chili pepper in town and it’s 400 times hotter than a jalapeño. Tesco’s Komodo Dragon chili comes in at 1,400,000 Scoville units (which means it’s really, really, really hot). But it’s a sneaky little pepper that lulls you into thinking you’re a total badass thanks to the delayed reaction of the heat — only to smack you in the face about 10 seconds after you take a bite. The package ominously reads, “Do not consume whole” and “Do not touch without gloves.” How long until someone pops a whole one in their mouth on a YouTube dare? — Mashable

5. Ramen-flavored ice cream is officially a thing
Japan’s Cup Noodle Museum had debuted soy sauce and curry flavored ramen ice cream — thereby proving that the world’s love for instant noodles knows no bounds. The savory treat comes complete with the toppings you’d normally find in a Cup Noodle like shrimp, peas and carrots — which seems a little odd, but hey, we are talking about ramen ice cream here. Update: We made ramen ice cream, and it wasn’t nearly as bad as we expected. — io9
