One customer figured out a way to get a free drink at Starbucks every day, but it’s making his barista hate him.
And technically it might be fraud? Yet I can’t help but be impressed by the customer’s extreme dedication.
According to a barista who submitted his story to Kitchenette’s Stories of Horrible Restaurant Customers series, this customer has been coming in and getting a free “birthday drink” every day. How’s he managing that? Apparently he bought 365 Starbucks cards and registered each one with a different birthday, so he gets a free birthday drink every day.

Now, the minimum amount you can load onto a Starbucks card is $5, so this dude has really committed to his investment. But if you think about it, spending $1,825 once for a lifetime of free coffee is a pretty good deal in the long term.
He’s also figured out how to get his obnoxiously elaborate drink to be eligible for the free birthday promotion. According to the barista, his order goes like this:
“Two pumps of white mocha here, then add five pumps of vanilla. That should take us to this line here where you’re gonna add cold heavy cream up to this ridge here…it should be halfway between this line and this line. Make sure to add the heavy whipping cream before the espresso, it changes the taste if you do it out of order. Then add your four shots, three regular and one long shot. That long shot is important, since you guys reformulated your machines, it’s been Hell trying to get my drink right. That long shot helps balance it. Then stir it for me, Mister Brad. Now do me a favor and add ice to the top there and it’ll be easy as pie. I’m not picky so don’t worry about shaking it or anything like that.”

Yes, he marks on the cup with a Sharpie where each ingredient should level up to. Then, when it comes time for checkout, he asks the barista to ring it up as “one quad espresso, add white mocha, sub vanilla, sub heavy cream.” Thus, a $6.50 drink becomes $3. And having worked in customer service, I totally get the barista just letting that slide rather than having to deal with the customer for even a second longer. Also, can we all agree that no one should drink that much heavy cream and sugar syrup on a daily basis?
So yes, technically, if you have 2 grand lying around and feel like making someone else’s life way harder for eternity, you can get free Starbucks for life. But if you’re a good person, might I suggest just waiting until your actual birthday and not committing fraud? Or if saving money is really that important to you, why not try making your fave drink at home?
