Burger King’s Peace Day Burger is happening, even if the McWhopper isn’t

After being publicly shunned by McDonald’s, Burger King has found fellowship with four other chains that want to create a Peace Day Burger on Sept. 21.

Burger King originally proposed that it and McDonald’s work together to create the “McWhopper.” The fast-food chain made a video and even took out full-page ads in several major newspapers.

But the McDonald’s CEO gave them the cold shoulder.

Luckily the story doesn’t end there. Four other chains have stepped in and are excited to work with Burger King. Denny’s, burger chains Krystal and Wayback Burgers and Brazilian chain (with 10 Florida locations) Giraffas have all offered to work with BK to create co-branded burgers for Peace Day. Burger King accepted their offers on a post on Tumblr.

They hope to create a burger that combines the key elements of each chain’s signature sandwich, to be served at a pop-up burger restaurant on Sept. 21. It’s for a worthy cause (each participant will make a donation to the Peace One Day organization), and it will be very interesting to see what a burger inspired by five restaurants simultaneously will taste like.

I think Denny’s captured the naming confusion that could arise best with its tweet.

Sure, it’s a little ridiculous to think of combining five different burgers into one, but if anyone can do it, it’s the King of Burgers.
