Your guide to allergy-friendly Halloween candy

Help make Halloween safer for everyone by handing out one of these dairy-free, gluten-free or nut-free candies.

For children with dairy, nut or gluten allergies, the phrase “trick or treat” can take on a whole new meaning. But public awareness about allergies has been spreading, and there are now more ways to ensure Halloween is safer for everyone. Initiatives like the Teal Pumpkin Project encourage people to put out a teal pumpkin, thereby marking their homes as one offering non-food treats for kids.

But if your child has a food allergy and a sweet tooth, there are still lots of great dairy-free candy, nut-free candy and gluten-free candy out there. Here are just a few options that don’t contain certain common allergens in their ingredient list (but be sure to check out the manufacturer’s website if you’re concerned with the candy being produced in a facility where other products may contain allergens).
