Halloween cookie pops that are seriously cute and seriously easy to make

If you’re not going door-to-door for treats this Halloween but know you’ll have a ghoulish gathering, these Halloween cookie pops are fun to serve when you’re entertaining kids and grown-ups too.

No time for getting seriously crafty? No worry. These treats are easy to make.

Using prepackaged sandwich cookies for these pops is half the battle. All you have left to do is to melt some candy and decorate with a few simple things. They’re so cute you won’t not want to make them.

Halloween cookie pops recipe

Yields 12

Total time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 12 sandwich cookies, like Oreos (the sort of cookies with extra cream filling work better to hold the sticks in place)
  • 12 (4 inch) cake pop/sucker sticks (you can find these at most craft stores)
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag white candy melts
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag orange candy melts (you’ll have extra, as you’ll need only 1/2 the bag)
  • Clear sprinkles for the ghosts
  • Edible candy eyes for the mummies (you can find these at most craft stores or in the baking aisle of the grocery store)
  • Handful thin pretzel sticks, cut into thirds, to use as pumpkin stems
  • 1 packet green Fruit Roll-Up treats, cut and shaped into small leaves for the pumpkins
  • Black decorating gel in a piping container (the thinner the tube opening, the better)

Directions:

  1. Line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper, and set them aside.
  2. Carefully insert the cake pop/sucker sticks into the bottom of each sandwich cookie.

To create the ghosts

  1. Melt 1/2 the white candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments until melted.
  2. Carefully dunk each cookie on a stick into the melted candy, and allow the excess to drip back into the bowl. Use a spoon or flat butter knife to help you cover the cookie evenly and spread the melted candy flat.
  3. Quickly place on a covered baking sheet, and sprinkle with the clear sprinkles. Repeat for each ghost.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes for the candy coating to harden. Remove, and use the black decorating gel to draw on eyes and mouths.
  5. Place in the freezer for another 5 to 10 minutes to set.

To create the mummies

  1. Have the candy eyes ready to use and near your workspace.
  2. Melt the remaining white candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments until melted.
  3. Carefully dunk each cookie on a stick into the melted candy, and allow the excess to drip back into the bowl. Use a spoon or flat butter knife to help you cover the cookie evenly and spread the melted candy flat.
  4. Quickly place on a covered baking sheet, and place the candy eyes onto each mummy.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes for the candy coating to harden. Remove, and use the melted white candy to drizzle back and forth over the cookie, avoiding the eyes, to create bandages for the mummies.
  6. Place in the freezer for another 5 to 10 minutes to set.

To create the pumpkins

  1. Have the pretzel pieces and candy leaves ready to use and near your workspace.
  2. Melt 1/2 the orange candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments until melted.
  3. Carefully dunk each cookie on a stick into the melted candy, and allow the excess to drip back into the bowl. Use a spoon or flat butter knife to help you cover the cookie evenly and spread the melted candy flat.
  4. One at a time, quickly add the stem to the top of each, as well as 1 candy leaf. Place on a covered baking sheet, and freeze for 5 to 10 minutes for the candy coating to harden. Remove, and use the melted orange candy to drizzle back and forth over the cookie, avoiding the stem and leaf, to create ridges in the pumpkins.
  5. Place in the freezer for another 5 to 10 minutes to set.
