Easy low-sugar orange gelatin recipe your kids will love

There is no denying that sugar is in almost everything we eat and drink, from natural occurring sugars to added sugars.

As a mom of twins and a health food blogger, I try to be very mindful of how much sugar we consume; but that doesn’t mean that my kids are denied sweet treats. They still get cookies and ice cream just like any other kids, but I read my labels and choose items that are lower in sugar. I actually recommend preparing your own treats and snacks because then you control the ingredients in them. In the past, I’ve made my own granola bars sweetened with honey, brownies with avocado, and ice cream consisting of just frozen blended bananas.

This time, I got the girls involved and we made fun, low-sugar gelatin using the new Tropicana Trop50 Orange Juice. One 8 oz serving of Trop50 Orange Juice Beverage is 50 percent less sugar and calories than orange juice, made with real fresh oranges and no artificial sweeteners, and of course it’s a great source of Vitamin C. I love getting my kids involved in the kitchen and teaching them how to prepare different foods. It builds their confidence, gives them a sense of accomplishment and, most importantly, allows me to spend quality time with them. By making our own gelatin with Trop50, we eliminated artificial sweeteners and food coloring.

Of course, I’m always looking for an opportunity to be creative, no matter how simple the recipes are. In fact, I prefer simple recipes with healthy ingredients. For my molds I decided to use oranges. I cut them in half, scooped out the inside and poured our gelatin mixture inside.

Within an hour, our orange gelatin was done — and as you can see, the girls loved them! When I asked them what it tasted like, they rolled their eyes and said “orange juice of course!” There you have it, a fun, low-sugar, low-calorie dessert using Trop50 that your kids will enjoy making and eating.
