There are some weird and wonderful foods in the world; we’re just not sure where these egg yolk buns sit on that spectrum.

Buns can be mouthwateringly delicious, but the appearance of the ones that Imgur user StreetHotdog recently uploaded may put you off — at least until you know what they are made of.
They’re called Gudetama, based on the Japanese toy company Sanrio’s character, and it’s a food craze that’s taking over Hong Kong, Hazel Diary reports.
The lazy, egg-looking Gudetama are reportedly served at Hong Kong restaurant Dim Sum Icon, who recently collaborated with Gudetama to allow them to serve the food on their menu. But what’s so exceptional about these buns, aside from their cuteness?
Well, for starters, when you poke them this happens…
Don’t worry — it’s chocolate sauce. But that’s not all they do. There’s another egg yolk bun that, when pushed, has a creamy custard-like substance called liu sha come out of its mouth as if it’s vomiting.

In addition to these treats, Hazel Diary reports that there are also Gudetama eggs and dumplings, which are made using egg yolk for the colour and then covered in a translucent hargao skin.
Wonderful? Hilarious? Gross? Edible?
One thing is for sure: These buns make for a great photo opportunity, and the reactions from other Imgur users on StreetHotdog’s post sums it all up.
“So…..is it edible?” PeachWatermelon wrote.
