Girl Scout Cookie season is almost here, and we have some bad news for cookie lovers on a budget.
According to CNBC, Girl Scout Cookies will cost $5 in Massachusetts, California and Hawaii this year.

Apparently, every few years the Girl Scouts need to adjust the price of their cookies to keep up with increases in production costs as well as inflation.
The troops within the councils that are initiating the price hike will now take home 90 cents per box of cookies, up from 62 cents. When you think about it, that’s not a lot of money, especially considering how much time these girls (and let’s face it, their guardians) spend trying to sell the cookies.

Personally I would gladly promise my local Girl Scout troop my firstborn child in exchange for a case of Thin Mints, but I might be alone there.
According to a CNBC poll, only 35 percent of responders would buy $5 Girl Scout Cookies, while 47 percent said they would not, 7 percent said they don’t buy Girl Scout Cookies, 8 percent said maybe, and 3 percent aren’t sure.
But if you think about is, $5 really isn’t that much more than what you’d pay for a box of cookies at the grocery store. Considering how great Girl Scout Cookies taste and all the wonderful opportunities the organization provides for girls across the country, I think I’ll still feel pretty good about spending a hefty portion of my paycheck on cookies this year. Any excuse to keep an abundant supply of Tagalongs and Thin Mints in my cupboard all year-round.
