Massive celery recall: E. coli contamination affects products nationwide

Dozens of food products containing celery have been recalled at multiple stores nationwide due to E. coli contamination.

On Nov. 26, Taylor Farms issued a recall of its celery due to E. coli contamination. The recall affects 71 products sold at 14 retailers nationwide, including 7-Eleven, Albertsons, King Soopers, Kroger, Pantry, Raley’s, Safeway, Sam’s Club, Save Mart, Starbucks, Target, Tony’s, Walmart and Vons.

The celery from Taylor Farms was also an ingredient in the Rotisserie Chicken Salad recalled at Costco stores last week. And then there’s the Food Lion recall.

In addition to the above, Food Lion and other stores are announcing recalls of celery-containing foods due to the possibility of E. coli contamination. Food Lion was informed of the possible contamination by its supplier, TGD Cuts. All of the affected products have a “sell by” date between Dec. 3 and Dec. 6 and were sold at any of around 500 East Coast Food Lion stores.

All products have been removed from store shelves, but if you find any in your home, do not consume any. No illnesses have been reported, but you should return any unused items to your local Food Lion for a full refund.
