As a food blogger, I am usually in the kitchen developing new recipes, taking photos or sitting at my computer typing blog posts, editing photos and sharing it all via social media. It’s my job, and it is fulfilling. But lately, I have felt a calling to do something special, something for others, something for the community. I have been dealing with these types of inner feelings for months, and I finally wanted to do something about it.
But what? What can I do to make a difference in someone else’s life?
Then, I saw a #BakeItForward commercial on Food Network, and I had an ‘aha’ moment.
The steps are simple: bake something delicious, share your creation on social media using the hashtag #BakeItForward, and for every share, Food Network will donate $1 to No Kid Hungry, providing 10 meals to children in need.
I realized that’s what I wanted to do; I wanted to #BakeItfForward this season and spread the message via my YouTube channel and blog — and invite other bloggers to do the same.
I reached out to Toni at Boulder Locavore and Erin at Dinners Dishes and Desserts who are also Colorado food bloggers, and I shared the idea of making a video of us baking our festive and favorite baked goods together to help spread the message about No Kid Hungry. Erin is the one who had the genius idea to share our baked goods with local firefighters who selflessly give all the time.
As mothers, we all have the common goal of protecting and providing for our family. It’s sad to hear that hunger threatens children here in America. Did you know that nearly one in five children in America lives in households that struggle to put food on the table? That really pulled at our heartstrings. So, we hope that our simple gesture will help end childhood hunger and has inspired others to #BakeItfForward too.
Let’s all #BakeItfForward this season and help Food Network provide 1 million meals to kids across America.
