Food — it’s almost like a song. Certain foods or flavors can make you recall vivid memories that you hadn’t thought about in years. I can recall plenty of “great” childhood foods and remember exactly what I was doing while I was eating them.
Imagine my surprise, though, as a person in her mid-30s, to discover that after all these years I had no memory of Hot Buttered Cheerios (thanks a lot, Mom). I thought I was fairly in the know when it came to all things nostalgic snacks, and wouldn’t have considered myself deprived when it came to sugary drinks, nutrition-less bites or fast-food meals with toys included (sorry, Mom).

Clearly it was high time to rectify this situation. Hot Buttered Cheerios needed to happen, stat. So happen they did. And let me tell you, I regret not trying them sooner.
They’re the perfect snack. For one thing, they’re Cheerios. There’s a reason babies happily cram 115 O’s down their throat in one high chair sitting. Cheerios are good. But then you take something good, and you coat it in butter and salt, and well… I don’t need to tell you. Now, I’m not saying that coating Cheerios in butter and salt makes them better for you, but I am saying that I would happily sit with that high chair baby and eat these bad boys all day long.

While I’m a little sad that I haven’t been eating Hot Buttered Cheerios for 35 years, I’m also a little thankful because, you know, waistlines and butter. But try them out — I think you’ll agree they have a firm place in the list of fantastic nostalgic snacks.
