UPDATE: This recall has expanded and now includes 107,000 cans of Chicken of the Sea tuna, for the same reason as the Bumble Bee recall. Both companies have their tuna processed by Tri-Union Seafoods, which reports that the tuna may have been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, putting the food in danger of spoilage.

Bumble Bee Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling three of its canned chunk light tuna products. The recall is due to “process deviations that occurred in a co-pack facility not owned or operated by Bumble Bee,” the company said in its press release. The snafu happened during the sterilization process, so there’s a possibility of spoilage. Fortunately no illnesses have been reported so far.

This affects cans of tuna packed both in water and in oil, so whichever you prefer, you’ll want to check out the information posted by Bumble Bee, by Tri-Union Seafoods and by the FDA.
