We’re used to hearing that our favorite foods are becoming more scarce (never forget the chocolate shortage of 2014), but luckily for us, the tables have turned. The U.S. is currently overloaded with a historic surplus of tasty, tasty cheese.
Apparently European dairy prices have dropped so much that U.S. grocery stores are importing it in record quantities, along with creamy European butter. According to Bloomberg, the U.S. has more cheese right now than it has at any time in the last 30 years. Crazy, right?

But even though cheese-loving consumers are rejoicing (maybe now’s the time to learn how to make fondue?), dairy farmers in the EU and the U.S. are worried. Super-low prices in Europe are threatening dairy farmers’ livelihoods there, and U.S. cheese prices are falling too — plus, U.S. cheese is getting passed over for the cheaper stuff from overseas.
