Avocados are the nutritional badasses of the fruit world. Yes, that’s right, they’re a fruit. And they’re packed with more potassium than bananas in addition to being rich in vitamins K, C, B5 and 6, E and folate. They’re loaded with fiber and healthy monounsaturated fatty acids (the good fat), making them heart healthy and good for your gut. They can also help lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

How to prevent an avocado from browning

  1. Place whole avocado halves, sans seed, flat side down in a container with an airtight lid.
  2. For mashed avocados or guacamole, put them in a container with an airtight lid with at least an inch of space at the top.
  3. Fill the container with enough water to cover any exposed flesh, and cover with the airtight lid.
  4. When ready to use, carefully pour off the water, and enjoy.
