Yes, Starbucks’ PSL is back, but they’ve got a spicy new drink that looks better

It’s here, everyone. The OG Pumpkin Spice Latte is officially out today, and I’d like to thank Starbucks for having the dignity to wait until September. Fall is here, y’all! Not really, but we’re close.

But what I’m far more stoked over is the new drink Starbucks is debuting this fall: Chile Mocha.

The drink is inspired by “sweet and spicy flavors such as mole, horchata and a thick Mexican drink called champurrado.” It’s flavored with ancho pepper (a mildly spicy pepper with a slightly sweet flavor) and cayenne. It’s made by adding espresso to cocoa-steamed milk, a dash of cinnamon and is topped with whipped cream (if you wish) and a Chile Mocha topping of ancho and cayenne, cinnamon, paprika sugar and a touch of sea salt.

You’ll have to wait to try this new drink, though — it comes out on Sept. 6, just after Labor Day. Worth the wait, I think. Chile with chocolate is one of my all-time favorite flavor combos, whether it’s in a mole sauce or hot chocolate. I kind of feel like Starbucks is a little late to the party with this one, but better late than never to the fiesta, no? See you at the ‘bucks on Sept. 6.
