66 tons of chicken nuggets recalled because of one very unsavory ingredient

Heads up, parents and frozen-food snackers: Tyson Foods is recalling cooked chicken nuggets — a whole 66 tons. It’s a Class-1 recall, which according to the USDA means there’s a “reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” This time it’s not bacteria causing the recall. It’s plastic.

Tyson recalled the product after customers complained about pieces of foreign matter (around 21 millimeters in length and 6.5 millimeters in diameter) that they found in their chicken nuggets. The company believes the pieces may have come from part of their factory equipment.

Fortunately, no injuries have been linked to the chicken. But if you happen to have this product in your home, you should throw it out or return it to the store where you bought it. Check your freezers for these products:

• 5-pound bag containing “Tyson FULLY COOKED PANKO CHICKEN NUGGETS” with a “Best If Used By” date of July 18, 2017, and case code 2006SDL03 and 2006SDL33.
• 20-pound bulk packages containing “SPARE TIME Fully Cooked, Panko Chicken Nuggets, Nugget Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters With Rib Meat” with a production date of July 18, 2016, and case code 2006SDL03.
