Comfort food season is just getting started, but a chilling recall is already disrupting dinner. 4C Foods is recalling their grated cheese nationally due to possible contamination with salmonella. Who will comfort us now that the cheese is gone? Just the pasta by itself? Yeah right.

OK, we’re overreacting. It’s actually not that bad — there are other cheese brands out there. But since this is one of our favorite foods, it pays to be aware. The following products with best-by dates between Nov. 12, 2016 and Nov. 12, 2018 are being recalled:
- 4C All Natural Parmesan Grated Cheese (UPC 41387-33126)
- 4C All Natural Parmesan/Romano Grated Cheese (UPC 41387-37126)
- 4C All Natural 100% Imported Italian Pecorino Romano Cheese (UPC 41387-77126)
- 4C HomeStyle All Natural Parmesan Grated Cheese (UPC 41387-32790)
- 4C HomeStyle All Natural Parmesan/Romano Grated Cheese (UPC 41387-11627)
- 4C HomeStyle All Natural 100% Imported Italian Pecorino Romano Cheese (UPC 41387-12302)
- Cento Parmesan Grated Cheese (UPC 70796-90502)
- Cento Romano Grated Cheese (UPC 70796-90501)

Note that this includes cheese sold under the name Cento, not just 4C. Fortunately, no illnesses linked to these cheeses have been reported. If you happen to have any of these cheese products, don’t eat it (duh). You can return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. And there’s always this option: Grate your own cheese. I know, grating Parmesan is a pain. It’s worth it for the taste, though, and in this case, for the safety.
