This Is the Most Popular Easter Candy of the Year

Whether you’re a parent planning how to fill your kids’ baskets or an adult feeling nostalgic for magical holidays involving surprise sweets, Easter candy is something most people love regardless of religious beliefs. But candy aisles are stocked with a hell of a lot of options these days, which can be a boon for people with a sweet tooth or a challenge for those of us on the indecisive side (me!).

That’s why it was interesting to find out which candies win out over others when it comes to Easter. According to a poll by the savings site RetailMeNot, the top five most popular Easter candies of 2017 are:

  1. Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter Chocolate Eggs (53 percent)
  2. Chocolate bunnies (48 percent)
  3. Jelly beans (48 percent)
  4. Hershey’s Eggs (45 percent)
  5. Peeps (34 percent)

I have to admit I’m not that shocked considering that Reese’s peanut butter cups are the first candy I always go for on the rare occasions I buy it (not out of vigilance, but because I’m more of a savory popcorn-and-chips kinda girl). I guess I’m way less unique than I thought!

Coming in second were chocolate bunnies — a classic — followed by jelly beans (I’ve never been super-tempted by these, but I guess plenty of people are). And then, of course, there are Peeps ringing in at No. 5. While that might seem surprising given that Easter is probably the most popular (or only?) time of year when people buy Peeps, they still won 34 percent of the vote for top Easter candy, which isn’t half bad.

Still, if you want to think of Easter as a candy popularity contest, it looks like Reese’s chocolate eggs are the best liked of the bunch. Not sure what your kids will like best? This survey might be a handy cheat sheet for your Easter shopping.
