Popeyes is Now Selling Cookie-Crusted Chicken, & We’re Here for It

Is there anything better than dishes that combine sweet with savory? Salted caramel, teriyaki beef and now… cookie-crusted chicken?

Sure, Popeyes’ new cookie-crusted chicken tenders, which are breaded in a crispy coating of shortbread cookies, sound kind of out there. But if you really think about it, are they any different than the myriad other sweet and savory chicken options? Or more bizarre than other fast food creations, like the Taco Bell Crunchwrap Cheetos Sliders? Probs not.

Cookies are perhaps a more overt nod to dessert, but no one seems to bat an eyelash at drizzling fried chicken and waffles in syrup, dunking hot chicken in honey or coating fried chicken nuggets in a sweet orange sauce.

But just because we aren’t phased by this culinary mashup doesn’t mean that the rest of the world isn’t freaking out (even though the tenders actually look totally normal — you’d never even be able to guess they were coated in cookies instead of breadcrumbs).

The Sweet & Crunchy Tenders, which are only available at Popeyes until June 25, are served with Popeyes’ Smokin’ Pepper Jam sauce, which is smoky, spicy and sweet. Feeling adventurous? You can get three tenders as part of a meal, including a side and a biscuit, for just $5 at locations where it’s this month’s limited-time menu option.

I know I’ll be checking out this limited-time promo, and hey, if enough people are obsessed with the cookie tenders, maybe they’ll become a regular part of the menu one day. A girl can dream.
