If hot, cheesy queso embodies your idea of quintessential Mexican fare and you’ve been bummed not to be able to get it at your favorite Tex-Mex fast-food chain, you’re in luck. Chipotle is finally getting into the queso game starting with one location in New York — Chipotle Next Kitchen at 504 6th Ave.
Well, what took them so long in the first place?! “All of our competitors sell queso, and we know some customers don’t come to Chipotle because we don’t offer it,” Chipotle CEO Steve Ells said in a memo today. “But because we refuse to use industrial additives, added colors, flavors or preservatives in our food, it’s very difficult to make queso that meets our standards.”

So, there you have it. We haven’t been able to get queso from Chipotle all this time because they want it to be delicious but also not completely unhealthy, which we can appreciate.
The Chipotle Next Kitchen in New York works as a sort of Chipotle test kitchen. Other potential menu items being tested there include frozen margaritas and a new salad.

While you can only score Chipotle at that one location right now, Chipotle plans to roll out queso to at least 20 other locations — and as much as a few hundred — if sales go well. C’mon, New Yorkers, do your part to get queso added to Chipotle menus nationwide!
