The Starbucks Mermaid Frappuccino Is the Perfect Excuse to Go to Mexico

If you thought the colorful onslaught of magical, rainbow-inspired Frappuccinos was coming to an end, think again.

We heard about a secret-menu Mermaid Frappuccino back in April, the invention of a barista in Bay City, Michigan, but the drink sold out of their location, and much like the magical creature it was named for, hadn’t been spotted again.

But now, there is an official Mermaid Frappuccino that’s being sold by Starbucks in Mexico, and it looks totally amazing.

This rare treat is made with a Green Melon Crème Frappuccino base (um, can we get that in the USA, please?), blue vanilla whipped cream, blue and pink sugar and shimmering violet pearls.

It actually sounds really delicious, no? What I like is that most of the embellishment is in the topping — there aren’t a bunch of cloying syrups in there that could make the drink too sweet or muddy the melon flavor too much, which is a problem I’ve noticed with some of the more elaborate Starbucks creations. A lot of the drinks end up just tasting like sugar with a flavor profile you can’t really pinpoint.

The Mermaid Frappuccino is available at Starbucks in Mexico starting today. Has there ever been a better excuse to take one last summer vacation?
