Chris Pratt Reveals He Raises & Eats His Own Lambs

Add this to your list of things you might not have known about Chris Pratt: He raises and eats his own lamb.

After over a month of silence on social media, Pratt returned to reveal just that during another segment of his mini food series, What’s My Snack? — wherein he ate, you guessed it, lamb and spinach straight from his own farm. “That’s right,” he says in his Instagram video, “Fresh farm-to-table lamb.”

“I’m excited to get back into posting stuff to social media after a much-needed hiatus,” he wrote as the caption. Pratt continues to say he’s been “farming lamb for the past six months and fishing.”

“They are the happiest lambs on the planet,” Pratt says in the video. “They are so sweet; and then one day they wake up dead, and they’re in my freezer. I don’t know how it even works, but it’s amazing.

“If you’re a vegetarian, I apologize. I don’t mean to be insensitive, but I did have a wonderful lamb lunch for my snack,” he jokes.

Pratt followed up his What’s My Snack? Instagram post with a photo of all the meat harvested from the lamb he raised, stating in the caption that the lamb lived a “very good life.”

“He was groomed and shorn, his hooves medicated, de wormed, no antibiotics necessary,” Pratt writes. “Surrounded by laughing loving humans, including children to whom they provided such joy. Nuzzled, pet and loved every day. No stressful travel to his final destination. Trauma Free.”

And based on his caption, we might even see him open up his own butcher shop. “Soon, though, it may be available to my followers as we test recipes and open up to market. Gotta get some things dialed in first. I have found a new passion to add to my many others.”

As far as sourcing your own meat, understanding how important it is to know where your food comes from and using every bit of the animal, Pratt isn’t alone. Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi told SheKnows hunting your own food is not only a much more environmentally sound approach to eating meat, but it’s also more nutritious.

“If you’re going to eat meat,” she said, “oh, hell yeah, that’s the way you should do it.”

When Top Chef filmed Season 15 in Colorado, Lakshmi said she was amazed at how much game meat they ate.

“For the first time, I was in a part of our country where people keep guns because they regularly go out and hunt,” she said. “That was an experience for me, that someone goes out and kills a deer or two, and skins it and freezes it and uses it all year. They use every part of it, they make sausage.”

As far as Pratt goes, if he disappears from social media again, at least we’ll know where he likely is: his farm, blissfully living that #FarmLife.
