People get really excited when a jar of Nutella is in front of them — especially when it’s on sale. And I get it. Nutella is amazing and makes everything better, but settle in for a story about the most ridiculous Nutella craze of all time.
Picture it as a combination between Black Friday and a really great sale at your local market — and that’s what you got when a French supermarket chain discounted Nutella by 70 percent. Madness of the sweetest kind ensued.
“It was a real disaster, 200 people were outside waiting for the supermarket’s opening,” one employee at a store in Metz, France,” told CNN. “All of this mess for a Nutella jar.”

“People just rushed in, shoving everyone, breaking things. It was like an orgy,” another employee in Forbach, northeast France, told AFP. “We were on the verge of calling the police.”
There are videos on social media of shoppers fighting over jars, yelling and screaming and pushing. It really was like an American big-box Black Friday sale.

“Seriously? All this for Nutella,” remarked one stunned bystander.
Another commented, “This is not normal.” It’s not normal, of course, but it is delicious.

The regular price of Nutella at Intermarché is €4.50 ($5.60 USD). It was discounted to €1.41 ($1.75 USD), which is quite the bargain. We don’t blame anyone for wanting to stock up, but come on people, let’s be reasonable.
