2018 has been off to a bit of a rocky start. We can all agree on that, right? You know what the world needs more of right now? Fried chicken. And female empowerment. KFC looks like it’s trying to ensure we get a hefty dose of each of those things judging by a new commercial in which there’s something a little different about Colonel Sanders.

Though the colonel claims, “I’m definitely not a woman” in the commercial, it’s Reba McEntire underneath that luxurious white mustache.

McEntire isn’t the first celebrity to take on the role of the colonel. Other celebrities have taken up the colonel’s mantle in recent years, including Rob Lowe, Ray Liotta and Jim Gaffigan, but we’ve got to say, McEntire is definitely our favorite.

The bit starts with the colonel onstage singing about the new Smoky Mountain BBQ chicken. But interspersed are funny lyrics like, “Please ignore the likeness to famous country singers,” and “I swear I’m not a famous woman!” At one point, we even see McEntire as herself sitting in the audience watching the colonel perform.

You’ve gotta give her props — the performance is funny, and she totally pulls off the colonel look. But I think the real question is: Can KFC’s Smoky Mountain BBQ flavor live up to McEntire’s awesome portrayal of Sanders? Hmm, better go do some research!
