Gordon Ramsay Serves Up Another Controversial Vegan ‘Joke’

Please excuse us as we peel our hands from our foreheads in response to Gordon Ramsay‘s face-palm-inducing “joke.”

The celebrity chef and host of Hell’s Kitchen posted a comment on Twitter recently stating he was a member of “people eating tasty animals,” and PETA is, as one would imagine, pretty peeved by the comment.

The tweet was a response to a question from Twitter use @yungqueer asking Ramsay to comment on her vegan lasagna.

Of the more than 1,000 comments on the tweet, the one that stood out most was PETA‘s.

“Oh, dear, Gordon,” the tweet begins. “We’ve heard that old line before. While you’re spending time mocking the future #vegan we’re betting you one day become, most chefs are exploring healthy, animal- & environment-friendly #PlantBased dishes.”

The animal rights organization, who’s well-known acronym stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, then followed up their tweet with a Paul McCartney quote.

“A real ‘hell’s kitchen’ is full of corpses & secretions from artificially inseminated, castrated, & routinely abused animals,” the PETA tweet reads. “As Paul McCartney said, ‘If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be #vegetarian.'”

It didn’t end there. Twitter user @atlink555 chimed in, calling PETA’s tweet “flawed logic,” to which PETA responded explaining why the organization is so “critical of the egg industry.”

This sparked quite the debate on Twitter between vegans and non-vegans.

This isn’t the first time Ramsay made a controversial comment about vegans and the vegan lifestyle. In February 2016, a fan of Ramsay’s asked him if he had any food allergies — to which he responded, “Vegans.”

Ramsay has yet to respond directly to PETA’s comments — and maybe he shouldn’t.
