Updated June 11, 11:45 a.m. ET: Back in June, IHOP caused quite an uproar when they mysteriously changed their name from IHOP to ‘IHOb’ on social media. Pancake fans were confused, but not for long. Just a few days later, we learned that the new B stood for burgers, and the name change was used to announce that IHOP would now be serving up a new line of steak burgers.
Well, according to IHOP’s most recent tweet, the name switch was never the real deal.
We’re giving away 60¢ short stacks on July 17 from 7a-7p for IHOP’s 60th birthday. That’s right, IHOP! We’d never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers) pic.twitter.com/KsbkMJhKuf

That’s right. IHOP totally pulled a fast one on us. The good news is they are still serving pancakes, burgers and are even offering up a pretty sweet deal on pancakes to celebrate the chain’s 60th anniversary. On July 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., you can get a short stack of pancakes for just 60 cents. It’s a nice start, IHOP, but you may have to go a bit further to get us to forgive you for this one.
Original story, published June 11, 2018: Last week, IHOP teased us all on Twitter when they hinted that big changes were coming by revealing they were changing their name.
For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHObpic.twitter.com/evSxKV3QmT

Well, now we know what the name flip was all about. After spending decades as the undisputed king of pancake breakfasts, IHOP has now become IHOb — and is all about the burgers.
Dear Internet, we abbreciate your batience. Now let’s see who guessed right. B-hold!!!!! #IHObpic.twitter.com/Fh3SkZ7s3Y

Don’t worry, pancakes are still very much on the menu, but the name change comes as IHOP (er, IHOb) reveals a new steak burger lineup that includes Big Brunch, Cowboy BBQ, Mushroom Swiss, Jalapeño Kick, Classic, Classic with Bacon and the Mega Monster.

“Burgers are a quintessential, American menu item so it makes perfect sense that IHOP, one of the most iconic, all-American comfort-food brands in the world, would go over the top to create a delicious line-up of quality burgers that hit the spot any time of day,” said chef Nevielle Panthaky, head of culinary at IHOb, in a press release.
“With seven different burger builds, all Steakburgers are custom built and piled high with premium quality ingredients and unique, signature sauces in between a buttered and grilled Brioche bun. There’s definitely a juicy Steakburger for whatever you might be craving at any time of day! The IHOP Culinary team took the creation of these Steakburgers as seriously as we take innovation around our pancakes, which means they’re soon to become world famous, too.”
It feels weird that our favorite breakfast spot is now competing with steak houses and burger joints, but hey, as long as we aren’t losing our giant stacks of pancakes, make all the burgers you want, IHOb.
