It can be scary to let your kids handle knives, even (or maybe especially) if they’re teens, but learning to do so under supervision sure beats learning the hard way when your college roommate isn’t home. They should learn basic cutting techniques and what each knife’s purpose is.
3. Safety & first aid
The USDA actually has training materials for all age groups. And don’t forget about knife and general kitchen safety and first aid for cuts and burns. They should also be aware of things like how to put out a grease fire (please ensure they at least know not to douse it with water), and to always wash their hands before cooking and after handling any raw meat.
