As the cold winter months approach, Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman) has the perfect comfort food that will warm your stomach and soul. Just ask her family, who calls this meal “a dream”!
Drummond shared her recipe for Shepherd’s Pie on the Food Network YouTube Channel recently, and we can’t wait to try it. She starts by browning chuck roast in a Dutch Oven like she’s making beef stew. Next, she uses the pot to brown onions with some other ingredients, then adds liquid (including beer!) to make the stew.
After adding more ingredients to make it “extra savory,” Drummond keeps stirring the stew over the heat before adding the beef back in to the pot. After simmering for a few hours, Drummond switches over to the Shepherd’s Pie. She starts by making mashed potatoes with “a twist,” which includes mashing the potatoes with the heat on low, and adding butter, cream, and other ingredients.
To assemble everything together, she adds several spoonfuls of the thick stew to a cast-iron pan, then she transfers the mashed potatoes on top.
“Shepherd’s Pie is one of those comfort foods that is also great for entertaining because it’s just so darn gorgeous and delicious!” she says in the clip, and wow — if you weren’t hungry before watching this video, you will be now!
Commenters were just as excited about this flavorful recipe as we are. “I can’t wait to make this. I have two of your cookbooks but, your videos are wonderful to watch,” one person said. Another wrote, “Nothing like savory pies and soups too.”
We may have turkey on the brain right now, but there are still tons of dinners between now and Thanksgiving (and all winter long!), where this yummy Shepherd’s Pie recipe would be delicious. Get Drummond’s full Shepherd’s Pie recipe HERE!
