There’s a reason restaurants serve bread as an appetizer before you place your dinner order — it goes great with everything! The Pioneer Woman‘s Brown Butter Cheesy Focaccia bread is going to become your new favorite side because it’s not only tasty but it’s easy to pull together in the time it takes to cook dinner and that’s because it’s built around store-bought focaccia bread.
You’ll first want to score your focaccia bread with a serrated knife so you end up with a round loaf made up with little cubes. These nooks and crannies created by the scoring are essential for soaking up the brown butter goodness coming later.
In a pan, melt down your salted butter and keep it warm until it simmers and turns a light brown color. To this, add red pepper flakes and fresh sage to infuse the butter with flavor.
Pour your melted butter “over, on, and in” your focaccia bread, as Ree Drummond says in the above clip, making sure the butter gets the chance to seep into all the cuts you made earlier. Then, take a mixture of grated havarti, white cheddar, and a bit more sage, and stuff the focaccia full of this cheesy goodness.
“The havarti is really creamy and soft and the white cheddar just brings that sharpness,” Drummond says. Though, you can experiment with any cheese you like best!
Cover the cheesy bread with foil and bake it for a total of 30 minutes and then you’re ready to pull apart the bread and dig in. This is such a fun side to serve alongside your main course and it’s so good that it might actually steal the show. Grab the full recipe here to give Drummond’s Brown Butter Cheesy Focaccia a try.
