Giada De Laurentiis’ Tiramisu Yule Log Is the ‘Pick Me Up’ You Need at the End of Your Holiday Meal

Although the big Christmas dinner is always worth drooling over, the sweet tooths (sweet teeth?) out there will tell you that dessert is the real star of the holiday menu. From pies and cakes to cookies and puddings, there are so many things you can indulge in after dinner at Christmastime and Giada De Laurentiis just gave us another item to add to the lineup — and this one looks good (like really good). It’s an Italian take on a classic Christmas sweet and everyone is going to want a piece as soon as dinner has been cleared.

“This is my festive spin on tiramisu, and it feels so perfect for Christmas,” De Laurentiis said in a recent Instagram video. Tiramisu quite literally means ‘pick me up,’ and that’s exactly what I think about every time I eat it.” She says this dessert is perfect for that moment after a long, delicious dinner but before calling it a night — and this yule log version is deceptively easy to make, too.

The Tiramisu Yule Log is a Giadzy member-exclusive recipe, but non-members still can access the ingredients on the recipe page. And if you’ve made tiramisu before, it’s easy to piece together the steps to create a delicious finished product.

You’ll first have to start by making the sheet pan cake that the log is comprised of. This takes the place of traditional lady fingers and is a simple batter made with sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract. While the cake is still warm and fresh from the oven, you’ll want to roll it into its final form and let it cool into shape.

While it’s cooling, mix up your espresso rum and then drench the unrolled, cooled cake in your mixture. Then it’s time to frost the cake with a mascarpone buttercream made with mascarpone cheese, butter, powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla extract.

Then, roll the whole thing back up and cover it in chocolate ganache, which De Laurentiis makes using semisweet chocolate and heavy cream. Tile your log with sliced almonds and dust it with powdered sugar to really sell the “log” effect. Finally, you’re ready to eat!
