The Pioneer Woman’s Baked French Toast Casserole Is the Perfect Holiday Morning Breakfast & It’s so Easy to Make

Holidays are exciting, but in the midst of presents and family and pictures, sometimes it’s hard to remember the basics — like eating breakfast in the morning. Because who wants to (or has the time) to slave over the oven when it’s Christmas morning?  Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman) shared a sweet, fluffy baked French toast casserole recipe that’s both delicious and “really easy to make.” It’s the perfect breakfast for your family this holiday season.

The Pioneer Woman shared a video of the recipe on the Food Network’s YouTube Channel, which she originally made in 2012. Start by tearing apart sourdough bread and putting the pieces in a baking dish. From there, mix eggs, whole milk, brown sugar, and other ingredients in a bowl to create the sweet coating that makes French toast so delightful. Pour it evenly over the torn bread pieces, then get ready for the topping.

The crumbly topping, which Drummond says adds “a little bit of sweetness and extra crunch on top,” includes grated nutmeg, sugar, and “very cold butter.” She uses a pastry cutter to blend everything together, then sprinkles it on top. It couldn’t be easier!

Pop it in the oven and enjoy the delightful smells emanating from your kitchen. (It’s even better than a Christmas candle!) When Drummond pulled it out of the oven, she exclaimed, “Oh this looks so good, and it smells even better!”

By the end, Drummond scoops up servings of the French toast on plates, then tops it with butter, warm syrup, and fresh blueberries. With a hot cup of coffee, this is the perfect meal this holiday season — or any time you want something for breakfast that’s both decadent and incredibly easy!
